California | Through My iPhone

Last week I had an amazing opportunity to second shoot a wedding in California with my friend Niki! I had never been to California before, and it definitely exceeded my expectations! I knew I was going to love it, but I had no idea I was going to love it as much as I did! And shooting a wedding out there was beyond amazing!

My first flight to Dallas left Boston at 5:40am and thankfully I made it just in time to grab Starbucks before I had to board my flight.

I met up with Niki in Dallas, and we flew from there to Sacramento together. Niki's muffin she got at the airport ended up getting a little squished on the flight...

Sacramento has a ton of amazing restaurants! There were so many that I wanted to try, but we didn't have time. The first night we went to Cafeteria 15L and it was so good! The atmosphere was great, and the food was really good!

That dessert? That's a s'mores skillet that Niki got...

I loved the palm trees lining the main road our hotel was on.

On day 2 of our trip, we walked around and explored downtown Sacramento! As we were walking around, we cam across the capitol building...and then realized that it was right down the road from our hotel!

Our third day of the trip was the day we got to shoot the wedding! Our day started super early...like we left the hotel at 6:45am. We were pretty excited to be shooting a wedding in California!

For some of the bride and groom portraits, we got to shoot at a beautiful vineyard. I could not get over how beautiful Northern California is!

 Of course I took a selfie ;)

The morning after we shot for an almost-15 hour day, I had an early morning flight back to the east coast and then up to Boston. This definitely called for venti skinny vanilla soy latte.

California was incredible! I cannot wait to share the beautiful wedding with you all! I'm still trying to recover from jet lag so if you see me and I seem a little tired, just bear with me. ;)

Also, if anyone else wants me to shoot their wedding in Cali, let me know! ;)

California

Hey all! For all my East Coast readers, this is going up rather late for you all. But I am currently in California so it's only about 8pm here. :P I am out here for the weekend, because I am second shooting for my friend Niki this weekend! I flew out of Boston at 5:40am this morning, met up with Niki in Dallas, and then we flew together to California! The wedding is on Saturday and I am flying back home on Sunday.

For our first dinner in Cali, we went to Cafeteria 15L and it was delicious! This was my dinner and it was so good!

I haven't even been in California for 24 hours and I already LOVE it!!! Plus, working outside with palm trees blowing in the wind is a definite plus. ;)

I hope y'all have a great Memorial Day Weekend!

My Heart

So I'm going to start out by saying that this post is going to be a more personal post, and it may be a long post. So I'm just giving you a fair warning. ;)

I wasn't sure to put as the title for this post, so I decided to go with "My Heart" because this post is all about stuff God has been teaching me and putting on my heart. :)

If you follow me on instagram, you've probably noticed that I've been writing long posts on some of my pictures. Well I decided to finally just write a blog post! The past few months have been filled with a lot of ups and downs and God has been teaching me so much.

As some of you know, I have been dealing with health problems for almost 2 & 1/2 years now. (you can read other blog posts that explain more about what all was going on the beginning hereherehere, & here) For those of you who don't know, I'll quickly bring you up to speed. In January 2012 I started having flu-like symptoms. The main symptom being nausea. I went to a few doctors, had some tests, everything came back normal, and I ended up moving home in the middle of the semester so I could work with doctors at home and rest and try to figure out what was going on. The past 2 & 1/2 years have been up and down with my health. I'll have a few good months where I am not super nauseous and I'll have some months where it is straight up awful. And a long with the nausea I am also dealing with exhaustion, rapid weight loss, and other symptoms. I have been in and out of many doctors offices, had multiple tests done, and they still can't completely figure out what is going on. So I am just learning to adjust life around this and work with it.

The end of last semester and the beginning of this semester, I really started letting my health dictate how I was living my life. I was letting it bring me down and I was getting so discouraged. I couldn't eat stuff I loved. I couldn't do things that I loved, I couldn't live life like a "normal person" and I didn't like it. I pretty much just gave up on trying to live life fully. I was super convicted about this. I was just sitting back and watching life go by. This is not what God calls us to do. We are supposed to live fully and not just sit there. I was throwing myself a little pity party because this is not what I wanted. I was discouraged and I was letting that dictate my health. But this is what God has for me right now in this season of life. And He may take this sickness away from me, or He may have me deal with this for the rest of my life. And if that's the case, it's ok. God doesn't call us to sit back in a season of life that we don't particularly care for and wait for the next "best thing" to come a long. No, He calls us to live a life for Him right now. No matter where we are, we need to be living for Him. And I wasn't doing that. I realized that I need to stop feeling sorry for myself all the time and start living out fully for Him

So last weekend I went up to Boston to meet with a GI specialist. I ended up finding out that I didn't need to be on the no-acid diet that one of my other doctors had put me on (hallelujah) and he thinks that this is the after affect of a virus or infection that I may have had and he said this will usually last 2-3 years. So I am on some new medicine and so far it's been great! I have another appointment in July and I am going to get another test done when I start having a long strand of bad months with my nausea. Thank you to everyone who was praying, it really means so much! God is so good! While we don't have solid answers right now, we seem to be going in the right direction! I love it in Romans 8:18 when it says "For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us."

And now on to something else God has been teaching me...again, this is very personal, but I am just being real with you all.

As I said earlier, the past few months have been filled with ups and downs. Well in March, my boyfriend and I broke up. We had been dating for just over a year and this was extremely hard. I was so upset and could not understand why. I know this may sound silly to some, but we were in a serious relationship and this was just difficult to deal with. Little did I know, God was going to use this to teach me so much. The first Sunday after the breakup, my pastor said a few things in his sermon that really stuck with me. He said "If you are anxious, you are wrong. God commands us to be anxious about nothing!" He also said "Jesus orders all the chaos in your life. So stop fretting and start trusting." Boy did I feel like my life was in chaos. You see, I am a planner. I like to plan things out and I expect them to go exactly how I planned them. And dealing with a chronic illness and having my long-term relationship with my boyfriend end were definitely not part of my plan. But they're part of God's plan. And I was worrying so much. I was trying to take control of the situation all on my own. But I was not in control, God was. And He is in control of my life. And that is so comforting

You see, nothing takes God by surprise. How comforting is that?! Nothing. NOTHING takes God by surprise. He knows exactly what's going to happen, and it's all part of His master plan. And everything He brings into our lives is only the best. He will never give us anything that isn't best for our lives. Even if we can't see it right then during everything that's going on, (trust me, I will be the first to admit that it can be very hard to see that trials are the absolute best for our lives at the moment) everything He does is for our best. Even the hard times.

There is a song that I absolutely love that has been an encouragement to me. Some of the lyrics are:

"When you fell like you're alone in your sadness
And it seems like no one in this whole world cares,
And you wanna get away from the madness,
You just call My name and I'll be there,
You just call My name and I'll be there...

Call My name,
Say it now
I want you to never doubt,
The love I have for you is so alive..."

-Call My Name by Third Day

When you're lost, confused, hurt, sad...just call on Jesus. He is there with His arms wide open just waiting for you. There is nothing you will go through that He doesn't understand. In Romans 8:16 it says "Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words." How amazing is that?! It says here that He intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words. He cares for us and loves us so much.

I encourage you to run to Him. He is the King of all Kings and the Lord of all Lords and He is the Creator of everything, and you know what? He cares about you. He wants you to run to Him. He is the great comforter. He loves you with an everlasting love.

Sunday Thoughts

Happy Sunday, y'all! I hope you all had a blessed Sunday and you are ready to take on this week. This week is going to be somewhat of a busy week for me. Well, at least the start is going to be busy. I am flying home on Thursday morning and I will be home until Sunday night so the first part of my week is going to be filled with working ahead in school, editing pictures, packing, and making sure everything is ready for my trip home. This trip isn't just for fun, I am actually going home because I was able to get an appointment with a GI specialist up in Boston (praise the Lord!) so I get to fly home for that and as a bonus I get to spend Easter weekend with my family!

As I lay here in bed waiting for this nausea spell to completely wear off and try to avoid falling asleep (gotta love medication...thankful that it helps with the nausea but it can sometimes cause headaches and drowsiness, but trust me I am more than thankful that it helps with the nausea) I am reminded of what my pastor mentioned in church this morning and something that God's been teaching me. Everything that God does in our life is for His glory and our good. He won't give me anything that isn't the absolute best for my life. And in this particular moment, and in this season of life, that means dealing with these health issues. God is doing all of this for a reason. At times it can be hard to see. I'm not going to lie and say that life is always easy because it's not. There are some days that are really frustrating and discouraging but you know what, God's in control. He's holding me and He's not going to give me anything that isn't the absolute best for my life. Because everything He brings in to my life is for His glory and my good. That is such a comforting thought.

Life has definitely been hard recently, I'm not going to try to sugar coat it. It's been rough. But God is wrecking me and I am learning so much and I am so thankful for that. (There will be another blog post about life recently and what God has been teaching me)

(my Sunday routine that you can read about here)

Well the nausea is almost completely gone (yay!!!) and I have a Corporate Finance quiz that I have to study for and take so I should probably get going. But, I just want you all to remember that everything that happens in your life-seemingly good or seemingly bad-is all part of God's perfect plan for your life and He's not going to give you anything that isn't the absolute best for your life!

2013 | Year in Review

Ummm ok I know everyone says this every year but...where did 2013 go?! Like seriously, this year flew by. It was definitely a life changing year for me and even though it wasn't always an easy year, I wouldn't trade this past year for anything. So I decided to do a little recap of some of the highlights of 2013! :)

January: I met my now boyfriend on the first day of classes :)
February: On February 25 I started dating the most amazing man on planet earth :)
May: I second shoot JJ & Kristi's wedding and took some pictures of Anna & Justin
August: I met with a new doctor and received the good news that I was able to go back to school! So, in August I also road tripped from NH to SC with my mom. That was definitely an adventure! August also marked 6 months of dating my boyfriend :) I also took James & Heidi's engagement pictures
September: My birthday!!! :D
October: I flew home to NH for a weekend to shoot James & Heidi's wedding! (more pictures coming soon!)
November: I took some pictures of my boyfriend's sister Maryann for my photography class. I also went home for Thanksgiving. I also did a few photo shoots while I was home including Taylor & Adam's engagement session and the Willis family's session (check out the sneak peeks here)
December: This month was crazy with finals and such. And this month I also got to shoot a proposal! You can see a sneak peek of it on Facebook

2013 was a good year, and I am definitely looking forward to 2014! Here are some of my resolutions and goals for this year:

Business Goals
*Blog more | Ok, I know this is so generic but I'm shooting to blog at least 3 times a week. I tend to neglect this blog and in 2014 that is going to change!
*Book 3-4 weddings | I wouldn't mind more ;)
*Learn how to use Photoshop | Right now I mainly use Lightroom for my editing, but I really would like to learn how to use Photoshop! My boyfriend knows how to use it and he suggested that I learn how, so hopefully I will be able to accomplish this goal!
*Attend a workshop or at least sign up for one | I have really wanted to attend a workshop so hopefully this will be the year!
*Push myself more | Again, kind of generic, but I tend to get in a "rut" with my photography and I want to push myself more and to get more creative and push myself in my photography business.

Personal Goals
*Spend more time in God's Word | I'm just being open and honest here, but I really need to be spending more time in God's Word and putting it more of a priority.
*Train for a half marathon | Ok, I am so excited about this one! My goal is to run the Disney Princess Half Marathon in February 2015.
*Learn to cook | So it's probably bad that my boyfriend is a better cook than me...yeah, that's bad. But I'm learning! This year I really want to learn how to cook more and be more familiar with the kitchen.
*Read more | And this is not for school. I want to read for pleasure more. On January 1 I went out and bought some new books so hopefully this will be a good kickstart for there rest of the year!
*Be more joyful | Again, just being open and honest over here. This year I really want to be more joyful and not complain as much. It's so easy to complain and not be happy with what we have and such, but when we look around at all that God has given us, how can we not be thankful and joyful? :)
*Spend more time "unplugged" from my electronics | I tend to let my iPhone and computer take over my life. I seem to constantly have my phone on me. And that should not be the case. This year I want to take more "breaks" from my technology and enjoy the moment and the people around me.

Well there are some of my goals for 2014! I am definitely looking forward to this year! I can't wait to see what God has planned for 2014 :)

just a little update.

just wanted to give everyone a little update on my health. i went to the doctors on monday to get allergy testing done. i found out that i have seasonal allergies (which could i ever tell that i have those...my sinuses are going nuts this spring!) and i found out that i am slightly allergic to beef. which doesn't really come as a surprise because my dad is very allergic to beef. my beef allergy is very slight (on a scale of 1-4 it was only a 1) and i find it kind of funny that i had steak 2 days before my testing and the steak never bothered me. but my allergist wants me to go get more blood work done. i was thinking that i possibly have a milk allergy because every time i eat pizza from our favorite pizza place, i feel really sick. but the test came back negative for milk. so, right now i have to go in for blood work, and then i have to go in to see the GI doctor in june. we're going to see if they want to test for anything that my GI doctor in south carolina didn't test for.

to say the least, this is all very frustrating. but i know through all of this God is doing this for a reason. i may not know what it is right now, but this is all part of his plan for my life. such a comfort!

well anyways, i hope everyone has a fabulous thursday!

snow days.

winter has finally hit new england. we are getting a snow storm today!!! we went out earlier and mom and i went shopping and i bought a new pair of running shorts! i would buy them on a day when we're getting a snow storm. oh well, i'm wearing them around the house wishing that it was summer. since we're probably going to be snowed in for the rest of today and most of tomorrow, i have decided that i am going to start re-doing my blog!!! make it a little more...me. :) so i apologize in advance for any difficulties with the blog. and i also apologize if it looks a little strange at times. ;)

well hello there roxy :)

messy rooms. and the calm before the storm.

i can't promise this is gonna be a long post. i have a very messy room staring me in the face. begging me to finish unpacking and then eventually finish decorating. i decided that i wanted to re-do my bedroom last spring, so my mom painted the colors that i requested, but we never got around to finish the whole decorating part. you see i had this silly little thing called graduation coming up (and before that all the fun stuff that goes on at the end of your senior year) and then i went to camp, then i was home for a week then went to myrtle beach, then boom i was at college. so now that i'm home for a while, i will have time to finish re-decorating!

it's a beautiful, sunny day outside. today is probably the last day we're going to have a sunny day until sunday. well, at least that's what my iphone says. we're supposed to get snow tomorrow afternoon through thursday. i definitely miss my southern weather. oh well! such is life in the north.

and i put this picture up because i could go for a starbucks drink right now.

happy tuesday!!!

determined.

i am determined. determined to succeed. i will not give up. as most of you probably know i am now home. i had to leave school because of my health problems. not gonna lie, i was not happy. i was ready to finish the semester and come home in may. but that is not what God had planned for me. so for now, i am going to be home.

but while i am home, i am determined not to just sit around and feel sorry for myself. i want to take this opportunity that God has given me to grow in my faith and grow in my photography. i want to grow closer to God. i know that He put this into my life for a reason. i believe that He has given me this trial in my life to grow me closer to Him. i want to be a better Christian. i also want to get better in photography. i am bound and determined to not just be "another photographer" but to stand out, and make a name for myself in this photography world. i want to excel, and move forward with my business. i want to be able to use the talents and abilities God has given me. i want to grow.

sunset on the drive back home

of course, i can't do any of this on my own. i can't do anything on my own strength. it is virtually impossible. i need to rely on God for this. this is something that God has been showing me. i am the type of person that will try to do everything on my own, and not give it completely up to God. obviously this gets me nowhere. i have really learned this with all my health problems recently. i always need to give everything to Him, and rely on His strength. because if i don't, i will get nowhere.

i just wanted to pour my heart out. i don't want to be a fake. i want to be real with you all. and i invite you to join me on my journey that i am just now starting on. a new chapter in my book. a new part of God's plan for my life. and with God's help, i am determined to succeed.

not easy.

this blog post is not easy to write. these past few days have not been easy. i went to the doctors the other day and found out that they everything from all the tests came back normal. they can't find anything wrong, that is causing my symptoms. they gave me some medicine that is helping with my nausea which is nice! and they also gave me some medicine for stomach pain. the other day my adviser asked me to come meet him. i went over there before my first class and he told me that i needed to make a decision about the rest of the semester. either stay and try to fight through whatever is going on and finish out the semester, or go home and rest and work with my doctors back home. i needed to make the decision by 5pm friday night. i had no idea what to do. i called my parents and talked with them and got advice from them and my adviser. i prayed and asked God to help me. my parents and i came to the conclusion that it would be best for me to go home and just rest and see if i can get better. this was not easy for me. i am the kind of person that hates quitting things. and i know this isn't "quitting" but at the same time, i'm not finishing up this semester. it really bugs me, but i know this is what God has for me right now. He may be trying to teach me something that He can only teach me while i'm home. i don't know, but He does. so i will be going home this weekend and we will see what happens from there. something that i think God is trying to teach me is trust. the day of my biopsy i found this song called "so i will trust You" and i absolutely love it! here are the words to the chorus.

King of Glory
i know You love me
so i will trust You
yes i will trust You

God almighty
You have saved me
so i will trust You
yes i will trust in You

this song just really speaks to me and i love it!

being home will give me more time for photography, blogging, reading, and lots of other things! i am going to hopefully get a job while i'm home along with my photography. i'm just gonna keep trusting in God knowing that HE knows what's best for me!

and since blog posts are just better with a picture, here's one! just a pic i took of my red sox jersey last weekend. :) i'm pretty pumped about baseball season!!!

so there's a little update on my life. keep tuned on the blog as i will have more time on my hands to be on here. ;)

inspired.

today i got to hang out with hailey and talk about God, photography, and a whole bunch of other things! it was great to catch up! hailey and i worked together last summer at camp and hailey is an incredible photographer down in georgia. hailey asked me to be her second shooter for a wedding she is shooting in NH in june! i am super excited! so today we got to hang out and talk a little bit about the wedding too.

recently, i've been kind of discouraged about my photography business. i want a brand, i want to have a great photography business, i want to succeed. but, i'm at the beginning stage of photography. i need to have patience and just trust in God. i've talked with some photographers and they've encouraged me with being an individual in this crazy world of photography! i'm so excited for where my journey will take me.

i've been trying to figure out what exactly "my brand" is. so i've been on pinterest just kind of brainstorming and figuring it out. and it has been a lot of fun! so, i'm just gonna leave you with a few pictures that i found on pinterest that have inspired me. :)

overwhelmed.

if you asked me to describe these past few days in one word, it would be overwhelmed. overwhelmed with what's come into my life. overwhelmed with God is teaching me. overwhelmed by the support that i have from my friends and family. it's truly overwhelming.

let's get a little background here so you can understand what i'm talking about.

whenever i transition to school from home, or back to home from school, my stomach usually gets a little upset for a day or two and i don't feel good. i usually get nauseous but never get sick. and after the day or two, i'm fine! well, when i came back to school for second semester, i thought i was doing pretty good. i was getting back in to the swing of things and everything seemed to be going great! well, my first sunday back just seemed like an ordinary sunday at college. i went to society sunday school, church, and then had lunch with one of my best friends. that afternoon i decided to make a cup of coffee and do some studying. just like any ordinary sunday. well it was almost time to go to church and all of a sudden i started feeling really sick. i didn't know what was going on. i felt super nauseous. i ended up staying back from church that night. i never ended up getting sick, just felt sick. so this ended up continuing on through this past week. i would eat something, feel sick. start to feel better, try to eat something, feel sick. i was starting to get really frustrated. i was tired. i was loosing a lot of weight. and i was sick of feeling sick. so i talked with my mom and she scheduled an appointment for me with a doctor close to my school.

so friday afternoon, my best friend drove me to the doctors office. i'm gonna be completely honest with you and tell you that i was scared out of my mind. i could've started crying at any minute. and this was my first time at the doctor without my parents so i was terrified that i was somehow gonna mess up on something. (i sound like such a little kid when i say that) so i was called back to the room. they did the basics and then started asking me some questions. once they were done with everything, the doctor looked at me and told me that i had to go in to get blood work done. he said that he honestly did not know what was going on with me. he said my weight loss made him nervous. and that if the test results didn't come back with anything, we were gonna have to take further steps. at this point i was really scared. a doctor just told me he didn't know what was wrong with me. i was freaking out (on the inside) to say the least. i was so scared. he told me the blood tests were to make sure my kidneys and thyroid were working correctly, and to make sure i didn't have cileacs disease. (he said he highly doubted that i have cileacs, but he just wanted to make sure)

i left the doctors office and got in the car with my best friend, and broke down into tears. i was 1,000 miles away from home. i was sick. the doctors didn't know what was going on with me. i was so overwhelmed. she reassured me that God was in control and He was going to take care of me. when i got back to school, i called my parents and let them know what was going on. i was so nervous. i never thought that anything like this would ever happen to me. but God has other plans for my life.

i went and got my blood work done monday morning. through all of this, God has been teaching me that i need to trust in Him more. i like to plan my life the way i think it should go. but really, i need to be giving my life over to God because He already knows what's going to happen. He already knows what my test results are. He already knows what is going to happen. He holds the future in His hands. i don't know about you, but i just think that is AWESOME!

i have been so overwhelmed through the love and support my friends and family have shown me through this. even though they are not all (geographically) close to me, they are all encouraging me, and praying for me. that's another thing. i am overwhelmed with the amount of people who are praying for me. it's crazy! i get texts from people saying they're praying for me, i hear of people who are praying for me, friends on the phone telling me that they're praying for me, i have a family back home who loves me and is praying for me! it's amazing!!! i am truly overwhelmed.

tuesday: i just got a call from the doctors and they said that all my tests results came back and everything looks good. so, i am going to be meeting with a specialist soon to hopefully figure out what is going on. so thankfully, nothing is majorly wrong with my kidney or thyroid, or anything like that! but i will just have to keep on waiting and trusting in God.

here are some pictures that i found on pinterest that are a huge encouragement to me!

home.

ok, i am finally sitting down and writing a {whole} blog post. i've got josh groban playing and i am determined to write this and post it today! so as you can guess i am now home for christmas break! i've been home for over 10 days now, and it is soooo nice to be back!!! finals week was killer and i'm so glad that i am DONE with them...until the end of next semester that is. :) i had a fabulous Christmas with my family, and today has just been a lazy day which has been soooo nice!!! tonight we're going to a hockey game which will be a lot of fun! it has also been so nice to see all my high school friends again. some people have told me that i will always keep my college friends but my high school friends won't always last, which may be true in some cases but man did i miss my girls!!! yes, i love my college friends but i have a special place in my heart for my girls from my class. so for now, i just have instagram pictures to share with you but i promise that i will be taking many pictures and sharing them with you!

i hope everyone had a great christmas, and that we remember the reason for the season. it's not all about presents and all the commercialization of the holiday, it's about Jesus being born into this world to save us! my pastor pointed out that Jesus came down to earth and got a body just to save us from our sins. that is incredible!

so here are a few pics from my break so far :)

i was flying with my good friend brooke, and we had a while to just sit in the airport, so we got frozen yogurt while we waited for our plane!

weekend at camp

this past weekend i was able to go up to camp and work in cool beans (the coffee shop)! it was a lot of fun, and it was nice to just get away from school, from the homework, from the business of college life, and go spend the weekend in the mountains. i also got to work with one of my best friends which was so much fun! it was my first time working in the coffee shop and i was excited but also very nervous! in fact, the first drink i went to hand out, i dumped all over the counter! so embarrassing! i eventually got the hang of making drinks...kinda. :) it was still a lot of fun! i also got to see a lot of people i worked with this past summer, and it was a lot of fun! i got up to camp on friday night, then came back down to school on sunday night. sunday afternoon, after all the campers were gone, i got to go 4 wheeling with some friends and it was awesome! it was a great weekend!

here are a few pictures from my iphone (i know, i'm bad...i didn't take many pictures on my camera...i will try to take more pictures here at school!)
